Desi drinks to cool you down


Temperatures are soaring and you find yourself constantly reaching out for cold drinks. Forget the fizzy beverages and whip up these cooling, nourishing drinks at home.

Aam Panna




2 raw mangoes, chopped with skin

Salt to taste

Sugar or jaggery to taste

1 tsp roasted jeera powder


Pressure-cook the mangoes for ten minutes with 2 cups water.

Allow to cool, and pass the pulp and skin through a sieve. To the pulp add the water in which the mangoes were cooked as well.

Dilute with water to make a thin drink.

Add salt, sweeten to taste and add the jeera powder.

Serve cold.

1 cup yogurt

4 cups water

1 sprig curry leaves

1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Salt to taste

Pinch of hing

½ tsp chopped ginger

1 green chilli, chopped



Whisk the yogurt with the water.

Add all the other ingredients and check the salt.

Serve cool. This is best kept in an earthen pot.





½ cup organic jaggery

2 cups water

Juice of ½ a lime

Pinch of cardamom powder

Pinch of salt

½ tsp dried ginger powder




Soak the jaggery in the water and let it dissolve completely.

Strain to remove any grit.

To the jaggery water add all the other ingredients.

Serve cool.
